[Yes, my drummer Tommy Larkins has just driven up from Tucson and we're going to record a bunch of songs and put them together.
Some of this week's episode and some on upcoming ones. So this is so great.
I met Tommy back In 1973. So I mean, we've been together more than 25 years. Yeah,'93, like 1993. Anyway,
So, you know, I needed a drummer for Tucson and Phoenix
I was just playing alone with a guitar then
And I called a friend and a musician that me and Tommy both knew
Wonderful musician named Reiner who lived in Tucson at that time
I called him up and
His wonderful wife answered the phone and said, "Um, what's cookin'?"
And I said, "I need a drummer. Do you know anybody?"
And she says, "I know two. The first guy might be better technically, but the second one has more feelin'."
I said, "Then just give me the name of the second one."
And that was Tommy and I called him up and I showed up in
Phoenix first, and I knew it.
I looked over at him on the other side of the hall while the opening act was on and I said,
"That's a drummer, and I'll bet that's him." And I walked up and said, "Tommy?"
And he nodded, and I knew it. And I just said, "Okay, everything's gonna be in four."
And it was really that simple from that on. And he had a pickup truck with a camper shell.
So I didn't have to take the grey-out bus all over the place. So I moved up in the world.
So I said, "Look, this worked out good. Can you play Texas too?"
And he called the flower shop and they said, "Yeah."
So the rest is history, as we say.
So
Like, uh, anyway, so he puts up with lots
You know how obnoxious I am right now on the thing, right at the microphone?
I'm just this bad in the van and on the stand
I'm always changing my mind about things like what kind of sound I'm looking for
And I'm always changing, anyway, so that's enough about that
Time to play]
