[D] Jonathan [A] Jonathan
(Yeah)
We [F#m] want to know some[A]thin
(Ok)
Well have you [D] ever been to Ber[A]muda?
(Yes), my [F#m] band once played down [A] there
What did you [D] like about Ber[A]muda?
Well there was [F#m] something in the [Bm] air
That kept [G] soothin me and calming me down [G][A]
[G] makin me feel better all around [G][A]
Well it's [G] quiet that far out at sea

[Bermuda is about 600 miles east of South Carolina that's why I say its so far]

[G] well down in Bermu[A]da

[D] down in Bermuda [A]
It turned me [D] all around [G]
It turned me [D] upside down
[A] in Bermu[D]da

[D] down in Bermuda [A]
I saw how [D] stiff I [A] was
And I changed it [D] just

[Jonathan when you say how stiff you were what exactly are you talkin about?
Ok, I'll explain it to you
Don't go away
What it means back then I was in this band,
We were playin this kind of stuff there back in about 1973,
We were in Bermuda and we had this job at a hotel, called the hotel ???
We were playin stuff like this]

Well she [F#] cracked
And I'm [E] sad
But I [D] won't
She [C] cracked
I'm hurt
Your [D] right

Well
[D] she
Cracked
I
Won't
She did things that I don't
She eats shit
Eat crepes, get stoned
I stay alone
Eat health food at home

[Nothing snotty about that song is there? No]

And she [F#] cracked
I'm [E] there
I [D] won't
Well!

[So we were doin stuff like that
And we were ok
But, like, we had, you know, all kinds of fender stuff,
And we were goin like,
And we were like playin all kinda like all trip hammers and we were goin]

[You know like that
And the audience was goin 'Oh that's very nice' and stuff
You know we were kinda serious and everything
You know we had a fair amount of equipment for a group back then
And everything and we're just going
You know this is pretty important, that everyday we're out there

Well! Yeah we're knockin em dead

Well, the trouble was the people who were really knockin them dead were these forty year old guys
Back then I never knew that I would someday be forty
Back then that was older - 'Hey they're forty year old guys!'
Well I'm gonna have to change it to 'fifty' year old
So, in other words there were people there as old as me!

So, and they were the Bermuda Strollers
And they all had sunglasses so you couldn't tell when one guy was lazy and just wanted to lay off that day, would call up someone else,
You know and they'd be the Bermuda Strollers that day so they all had sunglasses and you couldn't tell who they were

But anyway so we were doin like a some
Bermuda Strollers had big guitars like this and everything like that
And they were playin more stuff like this type of material you know
All the ??? kids loved them and they were goin]

[G] Bang Bang Lulu
[D] Lulu ran a[G]way
Lulu had to go [C] bang bang
That's [D] why she ran a[G]way

[G] Lulu had a boyfriend
[D] name was 'Tommy [G] Tonka'
Took him out to [C] his house
To [D] see if he could

[G] Bang Bang Lulu
Lulu ran a[D]way
(See it still works! It was good then and it still works)
[G] Lulu had to go [C] bang bang
That's [D] why she ran a[G]way

[And the guitar had this great fat sound
Kinda like this you know

And it wasn't just him
The bass player was great too
He was this old guy - old guy? sure! he was almost forty years old! Hell! -
And he was in a windbreaker and everthin like that ???
You know and he was just there

And he was just goin you know like when the lead guitar guy - their only guitar guy - was goin,

The bass man's just goin

And makin it sound way bad, it's boomin
And he's great and he's just not movin, he's just kinda like chewin gum or somethin, just kinda like you know

He was like the Bill Wyman of the Caribbean
You know he's up there

And I'm watchin this and goin 'Oh, we really are stiff
These guys really are looser than us'
I'm thinking to myself
Here's what I'm thinking: 'oh'

After that trip to Bermuda, you know, that band never got along as well after that
That was really the beginning of the end for us
It's true
Cause I started getting way into that kind of stuff you know
Started buyin Calypso records and things

You see? It's catchy You gotta admit it's catchy

So that's what I mean when I say how stiff I was

Ok, now we're getting, now you can get back to your song Jonathan Ok thanks]

[D] Jonathan [A] Jonathan
(Yeah what?)
[F#m] we want to know some[A]thin
(Yes?)
Well did you [D] wander around Ber[A]muda?
(In fact I did Thank you for asking)
[F#m] I wandered all [A] around
And the [D] flowers in Ber[A]muda
(Ahh the flowers well)
They [F#m] almost knocked you [G] down
(Why?)
Because they [G] smelt so strong you know, [A] oh oh oh
(Yeah)
And it was [G] springtime when we were down there too, [A] oh oh oh
(Yes)
[G] little petals all around

[G] down in Bermu[A]da

[D] down in Bermuda [A]
It turned me [D] all around [G]
It turned me [D] upside down
[A] in Bermu[D]da

[D] down in Bermuda [A]
I saw how [D] stiff I [A] was
And I changed it [D] just because

We want to know something

Binghamton

Lyrics

Jonathan Jonathan
(Yeah what)
We want to know something
(Ok)
Have you ever been to Bermuda?
(Yes), my band once played down there
What did you like about Bermuda?
Well there was something in the air
That kept soothing me and calming me down
Making me feel better all around
Well it's quiet that far out at sea

Oh down in Bermuda

Down in Bermuda
It turned me all around
It turned me upside down
In Bermuda

Ding ding

Well down in Bermuda
I saw how stiff I was

[Jonathan when you say you saw how stiff you were down in Bermuda,
What exactly are you referring to?
Well, you see I had this band then called the Modern Lovers
Now back in 1973 when we went to Bermuda we were doing material kind of like this]

Well she cracked
And I'm sad
I won't
And
She cracked
I'm hurt
You're right

Well
She
Cracked
I
Won't
She did things that I don't
She eats shit
Eat crepes, get stoned
I stay alone
Eat health food at home

And she cracked
I'm sad
But I won't
She cracked
I'm hurt
You're right

[And we were doing other songs with beats like that we were going]

Well I don't want some girl to fool around with
Well I don't want some girl to ball
All I want is a girl that I care about
Or I want nothing at all

[We were real good but all our beats were kind of like that they had, and, and,
So the college kids liked us ok but they loved,
You see it was like college break time see,
See it was like college break time see, back then we were all about the same age,
That was way back though see,
No not that long but they had the paddle wheel already
And they had the indoor plumbing was invented a few weeks before
It was pretty good back then really, ???, they loved, they liked us I guess but we were pretty serious
More into having fun were the Bermuda Strollers
And the college kids loved the Bermuda Strollers
And they were doing material more like this]

Bang Bang Lulu
Lulu ran away
Lulu had to go bang bang
That's why she ran away

Lulu had a boyfriend
Name was 'Tommy Tonka'
Took him out to his house
To see if he could

Bang Bang Lulu
Lulu
[See it still works! See they liked us but they loved that shit]

[Well you see and they were old guys too
They must have been almost 40 years old
But I was still impressed, they could still play and everything
And I said, ooh compared to them we're stiff and rigid
I thought we were so sexy
But you saw the advertisement, this is supposed to be like a nude show,
See that's cause everything I do is so sexy, but I saw an asterisk next to the nude part,
Maybe that means I'm naked on the fourth dimension or something, anyway
So like, the Bermuda Strollers were there, and I was thinking, ooh, I like this,
So I started stealing from them instead of the other people I used to steal from,
That's when I started making up songs like "here come the Martian Martians"
It doesn't mean anything, it's just modified Calypso beat,]

Here come the Martian Martians

[It's more or less like, with another beat taken out of it, oh all kinds of stuff
Abominable snowman in the market and other sort of borrowed Calypso
That's when that band really stopped getting along you know]

Jonathan Jonathan
(Yeah what?)
We want to know something
(Go ahead, we've gone this far)
Well did you wander around Bermuda?
(Yes)
I wandered all around
(See, it's fun making stuff up like this)
And the flowers down in Bermuda
(What about that, oh yeah, them)
They almost knocked you down
Because they smelt so strong you know
And it was springtime when we were down there too
(Yes)
Little petals all around

Down in Bermuda

Down in Bermuda
It turned me all around
It turned me upside down
In Bermuda

Ding ding

Well down in Bermuda
I saw how stiff I was
And I changed it just because
In Bermuda

Jonathan Jonathan
(Yeah)
We want to know something

Live In Victoria

Lyrics

[The first thing I want to tell you is
This isn't a concert
Even though it's in a theatre setting
It a real ??? show
What it means is don't be sitting there
You don't have to be silent
If someone makes noise
You don't need to go 'shh'
It's supposed to be more like a beach party
Less like a science seminar
Also if any parents have
I can't see so good in front of me
But if you got little infants
And they create a racket, that's fine
I'm going to make a racket too
No need to worry about them
Disturbing anyone else
Even if they do
Ok you ready?
???
Better
Ok]

[???, Ok]

[[Tuning, crowd cheers]]

[You're revealing your lack of perfect pitch]

[Oh we're gonna do one thing and now we're gonna do another
Sounds kind of like the other one]

Jonathan, Jonathan
Yeah
We want to know something
Okay
Have you ever been to Bermuda?
Yes, in fact
My band once played down there
What did you like about Bermuda?
Well there was something in the air
That kept soothing me and calming me down
Making me feel better all around
It was quiet that far out at sea
Well down in Bermuda

Well down in Bermuda
It turned me all around
It turned me upside down
In Bermuda

Well down in Bermuda
I saw how stiff I was

What do you mean Jonathan?
How stiff you were
What are you referring to exactly?
What do you mean?

Well look, back in 73, I was there with my band
When we were like young

So ??? back then
Last three or four years this is all I do
See I don't have a band anymore
For the past three or four years
Some people think that maybe I've abandoned them
Solo appearance
This is all I do, this is it

Anyway back when I was playing with a band
We went down to Bermuda
And we were playing material like this then

[[Starts a version of She Cracked]]

Well she was sensitive
She understood me
She understood the European scene
From 1943

Don't ask me what that was
I wasn't even born yet

But she does these things that I can't stand
I hear she sleeps with another man
She cracked
I'm sad
But I won't
Well she cracked
I'm hurt
You're right

Well

[[Ends version of She Cracked]]

Like that

Now we were good
Bu the band who was winning the day in Bermuda
Elbow Beach
Was the Bermuda Strollers
See we had all of this more expensive equipment
We were there from the States and everything
Back when we were like 20, 21
Back when all the songs had a ??? meaning

The Bermuda Strollers were doing more this sort of material

About there
Big fat guitars like this one
Cute little skinny ones

[[Start version of Bang Bang Lulu]]

Bang Bang Lulu
Lulu ran away'
Lulu had to go bang bang
That's why she ran away

Lulu had a boyfriend
Name was Tommy Tonka
She took him up to his house
To see if he would

Bang bang Lulu
Lulu ran away
Lulu had to go bang bang
That's why she ran away

[[End version of Bang Bang Lulu]]

They were cooking playing this stuff
And the bass player was good too
The rhythm guitar man he was going
??? I got used to cooking
???
So I didn't start cooking
I started ??? in a general way
When I was starting to get to the point

So anyway
Anyway, sp the rhythm guitar man goes like this in the Bermuda Strollers
They were older guys too, they were like forty years old
Bass man
??? Windbreaker
He looked like someone's uncle
He would be forty years old

Yeah
He was
And I was impressed anyway
Even if I never did think I would be forty years old

So there I was
And I was thinking
Boy we are stiff
Boy we think we're hot shit and we're real rigid
Boy those Bermuda Strollers have a more casual approach
Boy I sure can learn a lot about rhythm guitar playing from that guy

So after that my old band didn't start to get along
I just wanted to buy calypso records
??? Show you what I know

The other guys started to hate all my new songs
They got stuff you know like

Well here come the Martian Martians

??? Calypso beat ???

Here come the Martian Martians
Riding on their Martian bike
We got to find out right now
What would the Martians

I was parting ways with them by that point
They saw it coming
???

That's what happened
Ok, Jonathan, you can get back to the song now

Jonathan, Jonathan
Yeah, what do you want now?
Oh nothing, we just wanted to know something
Yeah what
Well did you wander around Bermuda
In fact I did
I wandered all around
And the flowers in Bermuda
What about them?
Oh the flowers
They almost knocked you down
Because they smelled so strong you know
And it was springtime when we were there too
Yeah, little petals all around
Down in Bermuda

Well now, down in Bermuda
It turned me all around
Yeah
It turned me, in fact, upside down
In Bermuda

Down in Bermuda
I saw how stiff I was
And I changed it just because
In Bermuda

Jonathan, Jonathan
Yeah, what?
We want to know something

The Birchmore

Lyrics

Jonathan Jonathan
[Yeah?]
We want to know something
Well have you ever been to Bermuda?
[Yes]
My band once played down there
What did you like about Bermuda?
Well there was something in the air
That kept soothing me and calming me down
Oh
Making me feel better ???
Oh
You see it's quiet that far out at sea
Oh

Oh down in Bermuda

Down in Bermuda
It turned me all around
It turned me upside down
In Bermuda

Ding ding

Well down in Bermuda
I saw how stiff I was
And I changed it just because
In Bermuda

[Hey,
Wait a minute
Stop the music
What do you mean, you saw how stiff you was?
What are you talking about?
What do you mean?
Are you talking about you had arthritis when you were only 21 or what?
No, back in 1973 we were stiff in a whole psychological way

You see I was there with my band
I don't want to speak for them, I'll just speak for myself

I was a very rigid young gentleman
???]

[[Starts a quick version of She Cracked]]

And she cracked
And I'm sad
And I won't

She cracked
I'm hurt
You're right

She
Cracked
I
Won't
She did things that I don't
She eats shit
Eat crepes, get stoned
I stay alone
Eat health food at home

And she cracked
I'm sad
But I won't
[Yeah I showed them]
She cracked
And I'm hurt
You're right

[There were Fender amp so ???
??? On the bass, he was like that too
Jerry he was on the keyboard, nothing painful like that on the keyboard
???
He was sort of like that
??? On the drums he was never like that
??? He was looking sturdy too]

[[End She Cracked]]

[Well we were pretty stern, the college kids thought we were interesting
But the college kids on break in Bermuda in 1973 loved the Bermuda Strollers
Who were ancient ancient 40 year old men
And they played Calypso music which sounded sort of like]

[[Begin Bang Bang Lulu]]

[???
???]

Bang Bang Lulu
Lulu ran away
Lulu had to go bang bang
That's why she ran away

Lulu had a boyfriend
Name was 'Tommy Tonka'
Took him out to his house
To see if he could

Bang Bang Lulu
Lulu ran away
Lulu had to go bang bang
That's why she ran away

Oh she bang bang
Oh she bang bang
Oh she bang bang
Yeah yeah yeah

[The ??? guitar and the band's going]

[No]

[[End Bang Bang Lulu]]

[By that time I started appalling my other bandmates by writing songs which were imitations of that Calypso music like this]

[[Start Here Come the Martian Martians]]

Here come the Martian Martians
Riding on their Martian bike
We got to find out right now
What would the Martians like?

Here come the Martin Martians
Carrying their Martian flag
We got to find out right now
What's in the Martians bag

It's Martian time
It's Martian time
Little rhymes cause of Martian Martian time

Well the Martians got the notebooks in their little hands
Well they're strangers in the land
Here come the Martians
It's Martian time

[Guitar]

[You see me, it works]

[[End Martian Martians]]

[[Start Abominable Snowman in the Market]]

Abominable snowman in the market
That's right you heard me right gang
And the housewives all remarking
It looks like a dirty marshmallow with fangs

Abominable snowman in the market
Oh
Abominable snowman in the market
Oh

[[End Abominable Snowman in the Market]]

Jonathan Jonathan
Ok
We want to know something
[Ok we've gone this far, what?]
Well did you wander around Bermuda?
I wandered all around
And the flowers in Bermuda
Well, they almost knocked you down

Cause they smelled so strong you know
Oh
And it's springtime when we went there too
Oh
Yes, little petals all around
Down in Bermuda

Down in Bermuda
It turned me all around
It turned me upside down
In Bermuda

Ding ding

Well down in Bermuda
I saw how stiff I was
[Now we hear what you mean]
And I changed it
I changed it just because
[That's right]
[It's just like the wind]
In Bermuda

Jonathan Jonathan
I want to know something

The Paradise

Lyrics

[Thank you ??? everybody
You want to hear another song? I wanna do another one]

Jonathan Jonathan
Yeah
We want to know something
Ok, what do you want to know?
Well have you ever been to Bermuda?
Yeah, my band once played down there
What did you like about Bermuda?
Well there was something in the air

That kept soothing me and calming me down
Making me feel better all around
Well it's quiet that far out at sea
Well down in Bermuda

Down in Bermuda
It turned me all around
It turned me upside down

Well down in Bermuda
I saw how stiff I was
And I changed it just because in Bermuda

[Hey, wait a minute, stop this music
What do you mean Jonathan, you saw how stiff you was?
What are you talking about?]

[Oh incidentally, Robbie, while I'm taking a moment
Robbie could I have a little of them that like ultra sibling kind of 6k and 8k
Could I have a little more 2k and 4k please?
Please stands for 4k]

[Jonathan, what do you mean you saw how stiff you was?
You see back then I had this band called the Modern Lovers
And in 1973 we went down to Bermuda
I think we were a very good band if I do say so myself
I think we were good
We were playing stuff like this]

[[Starts a quick version of She Cracked]]

And she cracked
I'm bad, but I won't
She cracked, I'm hers
You're alive

Well she cracked
I won't
She did things that I don't
She
Eats shit
???
Get stoned
I stay alone
Eat health food
At home

And she cracked
I'm sad, but I won't
No
She cracked, I'm hers, you're right

Guitar solo

[We were standing there like this
The bass player]

[[Ends She Cracked]]

[And I think we were real good but a lot of our stuff
We had other stuff like

We had other stuff that went

And it's a good beat but the college kids, they thought we were pretty good
But they loved the Bermuda Strollers

And the Bermuda Strollers went]

[[Starts a version of Bang Bang Lulu]]

Bang Bang Lulu
Lulu ran away
Lulu had to go bang bang
That's why she ran away

Lulu had a boyfriend
Name was Tommy Tonka
Took her out to his house
To see if he could

Bang Bang Lulu
Lulu ran away
Lulu had to go bang bang
That's why she ran away

Oh she bang bang
Oh she bang bang
Oh she bang bang
Yeah yeah yeah

[[Ends the version of Bang Bang Lulu]]

[And that was pretty good
I say, I heard that and I went
Oooh, cause their guitar player went

He wasn't just standing there going [[plays guitar from She Cracked]]

No no he was going

And I heard that and I went
Oooh
And the other Modern Lovers, they were watching me going oooh
And they went 'Oh no'
Jonathan's gone for another craze
This will ruin everything
And it did
Cause I started to do stuff
I started trying to copy them

Hey Bobby? Remember the sound we had before?
I think that was better than what we got now
Let's go back to whatever that was
It's all my fault
I take full responsibility for this ???
My own fault
Don't blame him

Now, as I was saying
So I was there and the other Modern Lovers that all was lost
They saw the sky, and the sky took on an orange hue
And they knew it was the end of the road
And it was

Cause after that i wanted to play a whole other kind of thing
They were going, oh no]

Jonathan Jonathan
Yeah what?
We want to know something
Ok, go ahead
Well did you wander around Bermuda?
Yes
I wandered all around
And the flowers down in Bermuda
Oh the flowers
They almost knocked me down
Cause they smelled so strong don't you know
And it was springtime when we were down there too
Little petals all around
Down in Bermuda

Down in Bermuda
It turned me all around
It turned me upside down
In Bermuda
Ding ding …

Well down in Bermuda
I saw how stiff I was
