Interviewer
Well we had a listener call in and ask about if Jonathan if you have a remembered meeting Gram Parsons at all
Jonathan Richman
I certainly have I more than met Gram Parsons he died in about 1973 and right around that time I was with the band out in Los Angeles and for a little while we were managed by Eddie Kickner who was his manager and we had the same road manager, Phil Kaufman and these guys Eddie and Phil are still friends of mine today
Well I really had a great time hanging out with them, gram parsons and we were all real sorry when we heard he passed away if passed away is a proper word after all he drank enough to fill a brewery and Moncanto Chemical company was bidding for his remains So what do you expect?
He was only 26 but the chemicals in his body didn't care So they weren't impressed He was gonna treat his body that way, what do you expect? But anyway, he was wonderful
Jonathan Richman
Oh uh someone hit me to the fact that there's a few gram parsons real fans and collectors around here If they happened to read the book about Gram Parsons The stories about me in it aren't true
Jonathan Richman
They're just fiction You know One of them, story in particular related by mr ??? fowley a wonderful man inventive in his storytelling you know It's a complete fabrication The story's impossible couldn't even happen but in any case it's a great memory and I still admire Gram parsons a whole lot
Interviewer
A tragic loss and do we have any other questions from the listeners out there who are tuning in? Are there tickets gonna be available at the door? Kind of a stupid question I mean a good question
Jonathan Richman
Make up your mind! stupid or good
Interviewer
Interviewer babble yes there will tickets available at the door Please go see it, it's only in St Pete, a short little ride from Tampa and a fun one too And anyone who's seen Jonathan before will tell you that it will be just a wonderful experience and you'll be psyched for weeks afterwards
Jonathan Richman
I wouldn't go that far I know people who have seen Jonathan before that wouldn't say exactly those words
Interviewer
In this weeks issue of creative loafing [??] the article on you I don't know if you've read it or not Jonathan was billed as the return of Elvis which I thought was a pretty good analogy just because um I'm not sure who even wrote the article and it was really a good analogy on how a kind of comparing your stage presence with that of Elvis Presley with the energy and excitement you know this total stage presence
Jonathan Richman
That's totally embarrassing I wouldn't compare the two at all
Interviewer
You wouldn't
Jonathan Richman
No I wouldn't sir
Interviewer
Well let's get back to some more music
Jonathan Richman
Anyway it was a very flattering article
Jonathan Richman
Yes I did, very flattering
Interviewer
It was so you did get to read it then
Interviewer
Well good then
Jonathan Richman
I wouldn't compare the two at all but it was very flattering
Interviewer
Then that's what counts let's get to a couple of more songs we do want to get to We are still taking questions at 239 9663 or 239 wmnf we've only got about 8 or so minutes to go so anyway this is a song this is called fender stratocaster and Jonathan promised me that I have to listen real hard to find out
Jonathan Richman
No I didn't I said it would be easy in the first minute you'd know why it was made up
Interviewer
Oh here we go time to educate
Jonathan Richman
I don't want anyone to listen to any of these things real hard if your listening hard then you're listening too hard
Interviewer
Here we go, fender stratocaster
